Welcome to the YRA’s new program to help sailors who are interested in racing get involved. Often there are folks who have a sailboat and are curious about racing, but for one reason or another are not involved with yacht club racing programs. If this is you, then this new racer program is for YOU.
We know there are a lot of mid-sized sailboats in marinas that in years past were actively racing. Boats like Catalina 30s, Cal 27s, Newport 30’s and others are great racing boats! But many of them are now in the possession of folks who don’t race them. The reasons can be many: a feeling the boat isn’t “racy” enough; the racing rules are complex; experienced racers are intimidating; and just not knowing how to start. This program is here to help.
Introducing the YRA basic keelboat racing program:
In the seminars we’ll cover everything you need to know to get your boat racing. And that is a lot simpler than you might think! You don’t need fancy sails, spinnakers, or other gear. If your boat is seaworthy, it’s ready to race, because you’ll be racing against other similar boats. And we’ll set up our race courses in protected waters, with short and simple courses.
If you’ve ever been interested in racing, plan to sign up for the series. Registration will open soon, we hope to see you out there!
