Protests and Requests for Redress

Racers:

Specific directions for filing a protest, or requesting redress, will be found in the Sailing Instructions for each YRA regatta or race. Protests/Hearing Requests should be submitted on the official US Sailing Protest Form, found in the Quick Links to the right.

Race Committees:

If you are a PRO and need help assembling a Protest Committee, the YRA can put you in contact with Area Judges and Race Officers who are willing to sit on a Protest Committee. Email the YRA office at info@yra.org.

Appeals

If you are a party to a protest, and disagree with the Protest Committee’s decision, US Sailing has a mechanism in place to appeal the decision. In most cases an appeal of a Protest Committee decision will go to the Regional Appeals Committee, called an “association appeals committee” (AAC).

Please Note: only the Protest Committee’s decision or procedures may be appealed; its facts found may not be appealed (RRS 70.1(a)). All appeals are filed directly with the Race Administration office of US Sailing, which in turn sends the appeal to the appropriate appeals committee (RRS R1). Decisions by an International Jury may not be appealed.
